Melanotaenia spec. „Suswa Village“

Aus dem äußersten Westen der Insel Neuguinea, von der Vogelkop-Halbinsel, stammt dieser Regenbogenfisch. Nachdem vor etlichen Jahren einige Regenbogenfische aus dieser Gegend in das Hobby kamen (z. B. M. boesemani, angfa und parva), wurde es ruhig aus dieser Richtung. Das liegt sicher u.a. in der schwierigen Erreichbarkeit dieser Gegend. Erst im Jahr 2005 fing ein Buschpilot bei einem Aufenthalt in Suswa im Nordwesten der Halbinsel einige Regenbogenfische in einem Bach unweit der Landepiste und nahm diese nach Sentani mit, um sie in seinem Aquarium zu halten. Von dort aus kamen sie dann über die USA in das Hobby und werden seitdem durch Nachzucht erhalten. Auffallend an dieser Art ist die rosa-rote Grundfarbe und die beiden dunklen, kontrastierenden Flecken, einer hinter dem Kiemendeckel und einer in der hinteren Körperhälfte. Die Tiere können relativ groß (12 – 14 cm) werden, bleiben aber friedlich und sind ohne Zweifel eine Bereicherung für jedes ausreichend große Gesellschaftsbecken (ab 1,20 m Kantenlänge) mit großen Regenbogenfischarten.

This Rainbowfish comes from the most western part of New Guinea, the Vogelkop Peninsula. After the introduction of several rainbowfish species from this region (e. g. M. boesemani, angfa und parva) several years ago there was a break with introductions from this region. For sure one of the reasons fort his break are the difficult travel conditions fort his region. In 2005 a bush pilot caught some rainbowfishes in a creek nearby the airfield of the village called Suswa in the north-western part of the Vogelkop Peninsula and brought them to Sentani to keep them in an aquarium for his own pleasure. From there they started their introduction into the hobby via the USA. Since then they are kept in the hobby by breeding. This species attracts by its pink-red body colour and the two contrasting dark blotches, one behind the gill cover, the other in the posterior part of the body. This species becomes relatively large (12 – 14 cm), but is peaceful and without doubt an enrichment of every big community tank (1,20 m length onwards) with large rainbowfish species.
